Ongoing participation with the REA Subs in School STEMs program.

We are really pleased to have the ongoing opportunity to participate in the judging of the National Championships of the Subs in School competition this year that will be held at North Lake Senior Campus on the 21st and 22nd of November.

Brian was fortunate to have worked with the founder of REA, Michael Myers, in a number of capacities. The “Subs in Schools” program challenges Year 10 to Year 12 high school students to build a fully functional remote controlled (RC) submarine. The program aims to create an exciting and fun learning environment whilst exposing students to scientific and construction challenges. It helps develop their problem solving skills whilst working and contributing in a team environment.

Optimising Data Quality.

Data quality, we all know it when we see it and all experience the pain of not having it when we need it. With the increasing use of business intelligence tools and analytics the accuracy, completeness and consistency of data and information has become a core focus for many of our clients.

In a recent project we put a data quality process in place. This involved looking at how B2B, CRM and Financial systems controlled and managed master data – a key element for all businesses, particularly product based businesses. We then looked at how data was transported, modified or aggregated during the course of transaction processing or reporting, and how consumers extracted and used it.

A number of duplication issues and inconsistencies were found and corrected. It’s amazing how quickly bad data multiplies!

This particular client wanted to not only identify bad data coming into the business (most of the data they use is from external parties), they wanted to manage data-quality in real time. They also wanted to free their staff from the onerous task of data cleansing.

After several weeks the data cleansing was done and a new data quality process implemented across the business.

We used the realising success® platform to capture the systems, data and workflows, this provided clarity, focus, discipline and engagement for the client team. That made the project faster, easier and more cost effective. This one initiative has ongoing productivity gains. Another successful project done.

Have you got the necessary data controls in place for May 2018?

In Europe the General Data Protection Regulation commonly known as GDPR comes into force in May 2018. This requires companies to give greater control to the customer over how their data is stored and used. Non-compliance will have a heavy cost in the way of fines and every company will need to ensure that data is responsibly and securely handled.

From the 25th May 2018 Australian businesses of any size will need to comply with the GDPR if they have an establishment in the European Union (EU), if they offer goods and services in the EU, or if they monitor behaviours of individuals in the EU.
