Being Capability Centric

An increasing number of organisations are focussing on being capability centric. A business capability comprises the resources and expertise that a business has available to it to support its core functions. Let’s also not forget, that capability is the primary driver of value!
Some examples of business capabilities include:

Customer and Supplier Relationship Management.
Performance Management
Supply Chain Management.
Manufacturing.
Finance Management.

Capability is an interesting thing, and is often seen as being purely human resource centred. Yet, capability can have many elements and enablers, and more often than not, the capabilities you focus on are driven by customer and market demand.
Business processes, technology and behaviours are three of the core vehicles used to provide and deliver capability, so understanding and having visibility of these is crucial if you want to enhance your organisations capability.
According to a survey conducted by McKinsey, the most effective capability-builders take more action than others to build and maintain their capabilities. Do you know what capabilities you have and what you need? Starting with a basic visual representation such as the one below is a great way to get started.

Platform updates:

Generation of Microsoft Word Documents from within the platform to be discontinued

In some of our older client libraries, we have historically provided a feature that will allow Authors to generate a MS Word document from the model. For those of you that have been through our training you will know that we don’t recommend this as external users seldom return to update the platform content to bring this into line with any changes they have made. There is a way for you to still do this and for details then read below :-).
If you have a version of Microsoft Word 2013, 2016, 2019 or Office 365 then Word can do the conversion for you (in fact that is what the server is currently doing on your behalf). Go into Author and select View PDF to generate the PDF of your model and save to your local drive. In MS Word select File…Open and select the PDF you have just saved. Shhhhh… Early heads up that a new release is on the way (but not before Christmas!)

We had the fortunate experience of seeing an early beta version of the new platform scheduled for release around Q1 2019. We like what we have seen so far and will keep posted as we find out more…
